Pleating machine e.g. for paper, plastics

The machine produces pleats of selected amplitude in a variety of materials fed through the machine in a continuous process. The pleating action is generated by pleating blades (7,8) fitted to support beams (5,6) whose fold and tilt actions are driven by directly coupled servomotors. This dispenses with mechanical cams and enables the pleating pattern to be changed simply by altering the program of the processor control. At least three servo motors are used for the pleating action. The material is fed to the pleating process by a height adjustable table which can be driven by another servomotor, also linked to the processor. The pleated material is fed between two adjustable spacing guide plates, driven by yet another servomotor. The use of low inertia motors provides an active pleating control.
