The drive (12) gearing (13) is joined by tie (19) to an associated rigid nodal point (20) of the body (1) so as to prevent the drive (2) twisting round if the gearing moves sideways in an offset collision. The tie consists of a flexible tie rope and/or belt lashed firstly (18) to the rear end of the gearbox (14) and otherwise (20) to a side beam (5). In a left-hand drive vehicle, this second fixing point (20) should be on the left-hand beam as against a right-hand beam (6) in the case of a right-hand vehicle. Two ties can be used (19,19') to the two respective side beams (5,6) and the gearing can be joined by ties (19,21) to front and rear points (20,20') on the same side, supplemented by frontally placed ties (23,23') which link engine (12) to body structure (3,4), fixed to body at point (25,25') on beam (4) arranged at an angle in front of the engine fixing point (24).
