Regeneration of contaminated solvents from dry cleaning of textiles

In a process for regenerating a contaminated solvent,contaminants whose boiling points lie above that of the solvent are sepd. in an evaporative first stage (26), whilst contaminants whose boiling points are below that of the solvent are sepd. in a condenser in which the solvent is condensed and the more volatile contaminants, which may include water, leave as a vapour . The improvement is that the temperature of the vapour of the contaminants and of the condensed solvent at their respective outlets from the condenser are controlled independently of one another using a separate cooling circuit whose coolant passes through the condenser. Also claimed is an appts. for the process comprising an evaporator and a condenser through which a coolant flows from a separate cooling circuit, by means of which the temps. of the liq. and vapour streams leaving the condenser can be independently controlled.
