The floor is for stalls for cows or for pigs. It consists of a series of square frames (1) with flat sides (6) so that adjacent frames can fit closely together. Typically the frame has two divisions running each way so that it is divided into nine cells (3) which may accommodate perforated floor tiles (2). All the cells have steps (4) in their walls which act as supports for the edges of the tiles. The perforations in the tiles may take the form of a cross (8) in the centre of each tile or many parallel slits to let urine and dung fall through.
