The invention relates to a gas spring (10) which is fitted in the telescopic shaft (1, 2) of a steering shaft. The gas spring (10) presses on a fork-like joint (6) via a closing member (12), and the piston rod (11) of the gas spring (10) presses on a lower for k-like joint (7). The gas spring (10) and the piston rod (11) are housed in a stepped bore (8) of a steering shaft sliding member (2) of the telescopic shaft.
