Monitoring device for sheet processing machine

The monitoring device has an optical measured data (4) sensor, and an additional capacitative measured data sensor (3). Signals from both are evaluated in an evaluator (5), to determine its amplitude. This indicates, whether a single or several sheets are present. Dependent upon the size of the amplitude, the evaluator uses only one of the signals from the sensors to determine the presence of one or more sheets, e.g. the more appropriate signal for this decision. The amplitude is compared to a given threshold value.
