In order to decrease the risk for loss of a ship, which due to harsh weather or damaged ship lets water in from the surrounding sea, the water let in at a certain level over the bottom (3) of the ship, for example on its main deck (4), is transported down in the ship (1) preferably to tanks (10, 12) in the double bottom of the ship and up therefrom and out to the sea through a system of emptying tubes (16) and outlet tubes (17) by means of the pressure generated by the height difference of the water in the system. Water may also be transported from the main deck or another deck through drainage tubes (13), which extend from the deck (4) near the board (6) of the ship and obliquely downwards to the opposite board of the ship, where they open.
