A laser device has two excitation areas through which partial currents of laser medium flow towards each other in the axial direction and are united at a point outside the path of the laser beam. This reduces flow separation and pressure shocks between the individual currents, increasing the maximum possible excitation power and significantly reducing static disturbances of the optical phase. This laser device is characterised by a high laser energy and high beam quality.
