Motor vehicle automatic power transmission control system

The control system for the automatic transmission monitors the engine torque and the input and output speeds of the transmission. The control generates a reduced value for the input speed and adjusts the torque reduction accordingly, to produce a smooth change in torque. The control system samples the transmission at preset intervals. The time period during which the torque reduction operates is determined by the rate of change of speed and increases with steeper changes in speed. After the changedown is completed the torque is restored to its operating level in a programmed manner.
