Testing mechanical properties of protective hollow tube for optical waveguide

The method of testing multiple optical tubes (PI1,PI2) involves a first measurement of a portion of reference tubes (PR1,PR2) with a first pressure and a first time-to-collapse point, in pressure containers (PC1,PC2), and then repeating the measurements in further portions of the same reference tubes with further pressures successively lower in value than the first pressure and with corresponding further time-to-collapse periods. Similar measurements are carried out on the test tube (PI1,PI2) giving respective pressure and time-to-collapse measurement values, and are compared with those obtained with the reference tube. The quality of the test tube can be determined from this comparison, i.e. whether its mechanical properties fall within a certain range.
