The engine has several cylinders (2,3) with reciprocating pistons (10,11). A control plate (19) with a high pressure control opening (21), connects the cylinders in a first angular region between the control plate and cylinders with a high pressure supply (23). A low pressure control opening (20) connects to the cylinders in a second angular region. The two angular regions are not of equal angles, and the second, greater region includes a first dead centre angle (26,27) of the rotation between the control plate and cylinders, which corresponds to the first of the two dead centres of the pistons rotation.
