A driven magnetisable steel conveyor belt (5), which as an endless conveyor belt is guided over direction reversal elements, is installed in the area of the profiled rail (4). Transportation carriages (1) movable along the rail have at least one permanent magnet (9) for magnetic coupling to the conveyor belt. Alternatively, the conveyor belt is permanently magnetic and the body of the carriage is magnetisable. The conveyor belt has a flat upper and lower run (10,11), and direction reversal is provided by rollers or drums (7).
