In an apparatus on a spinning works preparatory machine, in particular a draw frame, for measuring the thickness of a fibre sliver combination, which apparatus essentially comprises a funnel-shaped body 8 surrounding the fibre sliver combination running through and lies immediately upstream of a pair of draw-off rolls, an inwardly biassed movably mounted member 12, the inner end of which member, together with the opposing wall 16, forms a constriction for the fibre sliver combination running through and senses changes in the thickness of the fibre sliver combination. To provide an apparatus which has a high wear-resistance of the movably mounted member 12 in operation and an associated longer service life, the movably mounted member 12 consists at least partly of steel-bonded hard material.
