<p>An optical coupling system for improving the coupling efficiency of an elliptical light beam into optical fibre (20) consists of a cylindrical concave microlens (10) on the end facet of the optical fibre (20) in conjunction with a pair of bulk optic asphere lenses (50 and 60). A method of producing a cylindrical concave microlens (10) according to the invention consists of translating a fine wire (100) across the end facet of an optical fibre (20) so as to create a cylindrical groove (10).</p> |
