Lactic bacteria

A biologically pure culture of a lactic acid bacterial strain (I) is claimed, where (I) has been selected for its ability to be implanted into intestinal flora, ability to adhere to intestinal cells, ability to competively exclude pathogenic bacteria from the intestinal cells, immunomodulatory activity and/or ability to reduce faecal enzyme activity. (I) is Lactobacillus acidophilus CNCM I-1225 (see also EP577903), Bifidobacterium breve CNCM I-1226, B. infantis CNCM I-1227 or B. longum CNCM I-1228.
