<p>An electronic ignition lock system (1) for motor vehicles has an electronic ignition key (2) and an electronic ignition lock for actuating an associated operating unit, such as engine electronics, drive-away lock or the like. The ignition key (2) exchanges at least one coded operation signal with the ignition lock. Means for decoding the coded operation signal activate the operating unit. When the evaluation of the operation signal has a positive result, movement of the ignition key (2) is unblocked by means of an electromagnetic locking device (38), so that the electronic ignition key (2) may be rotated and/or translated out of an initial position. This movement of the ignition key (2) acts on mechanical, electronic, optical or optoelectronic switching elements (44, 45, 46) located in the ignition lock.</p> |
