Melt-spun polyester threads are (a) treated with a liquid polyamine with is not 2NH gps. before the temp. of the threads has dropped below the m.pt. of the polyester and (b) treated with a mono- or poly-functional acylating or alkylating agent or a mono- or poly-isocyanate, after the temp. has dropped to below the m.pt. of the polyester. The substantivity of (co) polyester threads to dyes, the degree of moisture absorption and the retention of electricity can be modified.
