PURPOSE:To provide the catalyst for reducing carbon dioxide which is economical and durable and selectively reduces the carbon dioxide to carbon monoxide in order to fix the carbon dioxide being the major cause for warming of the earth in a large amt. at a high speed, and the process for producing this catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The molar ratio of S/Mo of molybdenum sulfide is set at >=1.4 and <=1.95, and further, this molybdenum is deposited on a carrier consisting of alumina, etc., by which the catalyst having high activity to the reduction of the carbon dioxide is obtd. This catalyst is produced by adding the carrier to an ammonium tetrathiomolybdate soln. and drying the soln., then heating the carrier at >=400 deg.C and <=700 deg.C in hydrogen or inert gaseous flow to crack the soln. or heating the molybdenum trisulfide deposited on the carrier at >=400 deg.C and <=700 deg.C in the hydrogen or inert gaseous flow to crack the molybdenum trisulfide. |
