The mains-fed input section (1) provides full-wave rectified output to the transformer (6) primary circuit, which includes a chopping transistor controlled by a pulse-width modulator. The transformer secondary unit (2) delivers rectified charging current to the battery (3). The starter motor (4) is connected across this circuit when the ignition key enters the "start" position (5). Battery voltage is monitored by an electro-luminescent diode unit (8), providing by optical link (9) an input to the modulator's energy control unit (10). The modulator also receives a voltage signal, representing the primary circuit current, via a resistance divider. A selector switch (7) on the latter allows the driver to choose signal levels corresponding to high current outputs, for starting, or low outputs, for charging.
|
