In an extrusion/blow-moulding process the tubular extrudate from the extruder nozzle is pinched and cut by spring-loaded sliding cutters carried by the mould halves and is momentarily supported within the mould cavity by a member connected to the blowing mandrel which is then operated to expand the tube. The support member may be loosely mounted on a rod or may comprise an expansible bellows made of silicone rubber. By so supporting the tube a more uniform wall thickness of the finished article is obtained.</p> |
