1,081,747. Shot cartridges. OLIN MATHIE. SON CHEMICAL CORPORATION. March 30, 1965 [May 29, 1964], No. 13473/65. Heading F3A. A shot cartridge containing a tracer charge has a casing 2 of plastics or paper and a metal head 3 housing a primer 5. A basewad 6 which may be integral with the casing underlies a propellent charge 7 above which is a cup-shaped wad 8 surmounted by an annular wad 9 underlying the shot charge 15. A spherical body 11 closing the wad 9 has a stem 18 extending into the wad 9. Stem 18 is recessed to house a pyrotechnic charge 14 which is ignited by charge 7 when the cartridge is fired. A sleeve 16 of resilient material surrounds the shot. A frangible wad (not shown in Fig. 1) may surround the sphere 11. This wad may be made of rigid or elastic foamed plastics such as styrene, urethane or epoxy resins. In a modification the stem 18 is omitted and the pyrotechnic charge is housed in the sphere. The shot sleeve, undershot wad and overpowder wad may be formed as a single unit of which the sleeve part has longitudinal slots.
|
