PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable resistor whose resistance value can be changed stably and repeatedly within a specified range according to its operation. SOLUTION: The end part of a conductive layer 34a to be connected to the connecting part 33d of a resistance layer 33 of a variable resistor is formed in a manner to beθm in angle against the tangential line of the outer circumference side of the arcuate resistance layer 33 in such a way that a distance Lm between the sliding part of a sliding element as shown by a dotted line A and the end of the conductive layer 34a may be longer successively. The sliding element is turned to slide the sliding part from a position P11 of the end of a projected part 33a to a position 13 of the end of the connecting part 33d of the layer 33, so that the distance Lm becomes longer successively, resulting in increased resistance value between the sliding part and conductive layer 34a. Even if the sliding part is close to the end of the layer 33 connected with the layer 34a, the resistance value can be changed according to the operation of the variable resistor.
