PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper money receiving/paying device where a jam does not occur in the integration part of paper money even if a transportation line in a surface/back inversion part inverting the surface/back of paper money is made short. SOLUTION: The surface/back inversion part 6 is provided at the down stream of a discerning part 3 in the paper money receiving/paying device 1. The surface/back inversion part 6 is provided with a first transportation line 12 transporting paper money as it is without inverting it, a second transportation line 13 transporting paper money by inverting it and a merge point 16 where the transportation lines 12 and 13 merge. The first transportation line 12 is made shorter than the second transportation line 13. The transportation lines 12 and 13 are set in such a way that paper money merged in the merge point 16 are merged in a state where paper money from the second transportation line 13 is always prior to paper money from the first transportation line 12.
