PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a silver halide photographic element which is suitable for exposure in a short time with a high energy by forming a layer containing a gold compd. and an emulsion of cubic silver iodochloride particles which is sensitized by using sulfur in less than a specified proportion to silver. SOLUTION: This element has at least one layer containing a gold compd. and an emulsion of cubic silver iodochloride particles which is sensitized by using <1μm sulfur per 1 mole silver. In an preferable aspect, the gold compd. contains 0.10-100mg gold sulfide per one mole silver. The obtd. photosensitive element for short-time/high-luminance radiation contains at least one kind of radiation-sensitive emulsion having a high chloride content in which each particle shows a band in a higher iodide level. This emulsion having a high chloride content is distinguished from a normal emulsion having a high chloride content by the presence of the band showing a higher iodide ion level. The higher iodide band is introduced to particles after particle nuclei are formed during precipitation, or during the precipitate is growing, preferably, with enough delay.
