PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the back light of uniform illumination to prevent the problem that a picture is difficult to see by dazzling by providing a polarizing plate on the light source side, which is subjected to such surface treatment that the transmittance is lower only in the vicinity of the light source in comparison with the other part, in the liquid crystal display device whose rear face is arranged with a light source for illumination. SOLUTION: A polarizing plate 31 nearer to two light sources 4 in this liquid crystal display device is subjected to such surface treatment that the light transmittance in parts 3a nearer to light sources 4 is lower than that in parts 3b far from light sources 4. As an example of the surface treatment, it is treated into a polished glass, and parts 3a nearer to light sources 4 is made opaque in comparison with parts 3b far from light sources 4. Since parts 3a nearer to light sources 4 of the polarizing plate 31 nearer to light sources 4 is subjected to the surface treatment in this manner, transmission of light from light sources 4 is suppressed in parts 3a (in the vicinity of the light source part) nearer to light sources 4 to eliminate a conspicuously bright part, and an approximately uniform brightness on the display face is realized economically. |
