PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily increase the yield of onion by scattering a gibberellin biosynthesis inhibiting plant-growth regulator to onion of from scale-forming stage to bulb fattening stage by foliar application. SOLUTION: A gibberellin biosynthesis inhibiting plant-growth regulator such as a triazole compound [e.g. (E)-1-(4-chlorophenyl)-4,4-dimethyl-2-(1,2,4- triazol-1-yl)-1-penten-3-ol (salt)], an isonicotinanilide compound [e.g. 4'- chloro-2'-(α-hydroxybenzyl)isonicotinanilide (salt)] or a pyrimidine compound is applied to onion of from scale-forming stage to bulb-fattening stage by foliar application to increase the yield of onion. The amount of the plant growth regulator is preferably 0.1-5,000g/ha for e.g. a triazole compound.
