PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decease the transmission loss when a plastic optical fiber is bent by forming two sheath layers having different copolymn. rates of a specified copolymer. SOLUTION: The core material of the fiber is a PMMA-based resin. The first sheath layer consists of a copolymer resin comprising 1-30wt.% long-chain fluoroalkylmethacrylate (FMA) expressed by formula I, 1-30wt.% short-chain FMA expressed by formula II (wherein X is H or F and n is an integer 1 to 4), and 50-98wt.% methacylate or acrylate expressed by formula III (wherein Y is CH3 or H and m is an integer 1 to 10). The second sheath layer consists of a copolymer resin comprising 30-75wt.% long-chain FMA expressed by formula I, 20-65wt.% short-chain FMA expressed by formula II and 5-50wt.% ester expressed by formula III. The refractive index of the resin of the first sheath layer is higher by 0.01-0.08 than the refractive index of the resin of the second sheath layer. The thickness of the first sheath layer is 3-25μm, while the thickness of the second sheath layer is 3-25μm. |
