PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a secondary battery having a high energy density, a large charge/discharge capacity, and a long cycle life. SOLUTION: This secondary battery comprises a negative electrode 6 composed chiefly of a negative active material holder, a positive electrode 2 composed chiefly of a positive active material, and a nonaqueous electrolyte having ion conductivity to the negative active material, an electrolyte-impregnated polymer electrolyte, a polymer electrolyte, or an inorganic solid electrolyte 3. The negative active material holder is a phosphide represented by the composition formula: Ax My P wherein A represents one kind of element selected from among Li, Na, K, Mg, Ca, Ag, Cu, Zn, and Al, M represents an element belonging to transition metals (M≠A), (x) is greater than 0.0, and (y) is in the range of not more than 3.0. |
