The flipper (1) has a small motor (7) driving a propeller (2) which is protected by a metal or plastics guard (5). The guard is divided in two sections, bolted to the flipper by lugs on either side of the propeller. The motor is powered by a battery, with both motor and battery set in moulded recesses in the flipper and enclosed by a sealed cover. The motor is actuated by a switch which the swimmer controls with his big toe.
