The security strip is made from a brightly-coloured material which is easily seen and is passed, for example, through one sleeve (1) of a garment and out through the other sleeve (2), and is joined in a loop at the back, allowing the garment to be tried on but not worn. The strip can be made from a plastic material with the two ends welded together from a fabric with the ends sewn together or from a suitable paper with the ends stuck together with adhesive. It can carry, for example, the legend 'This garment cannot be exchanged or replaced once the strip has been cut or broken'.
