User version indicating method e.g. for GSM

摘要

A profile number of at least one network device is transmitted for a first-time dialog between two network devices. The profile number is stored at the receiving device. Capacity symbols and/or properties of the network devices are also transmitted. The profile number is stored together with a device number which identifies the transmitting network device (Visitor Location Register)and a user version number which characterizes the user version. The stored profile number is used to determine which user version is supported for use in the dialog. This allows higher user versions to be combined with new character release procedures.
