The drive of the band cutter system is accelerated and decelerated depending upon the working stroke. It is moved in such a way that the cutting in of the material web by the band cutter takes place at the point in time when the maximum acceleration of the cutting band commences. The cutting drive started shortly before the end of the advancing motion of the material web is returned to zero after reaching the maximum acceleration.
