<p>A device and method for error correcting coding by which error correcting codes for input data of N bits (N is a natural number) per symbol are coded using Reed-Solomon codes having elements in a Galois field GF(2N) having 2N elements. A ROM (14) which is product data storing means stores the products of input data by the coefficients of the polynominal for generating the Reed-Solomon codes in the Galois body in sets of b products for each address. Readout control means (12, 13, 24-26, and 28) reads the product data stored in the ROM (14) in parallel in sets of b products according to the input data and selectively write the product data in m (m is natural number) storage devices (20-22) through exclusive OR operators (15-18) and a bus selector (19). When the input data are successively inputted to the ROM (14), the (m) storage devices generate and output parity data.</p> |
