<p>Inhibitors of 15-lipoxygenase (15-LO) are useful to treat and prevent inflammation or atherosclerosis. Preferred inhibitors have a ratio of 5-LO to 15-LO inhibitory activity of at least about 10 or more. Typical 15-LO inhibitors have the formulas (I), (a), (b), (IV), (V), and (VI) wherein R?1, R2, R3, and R6¿ independently are hydrogen, alkyl, halo, cyano, nitro, alkoxy, amino, alkoxycarbonyl, carboxamido, alkoxymethyl and aminomethyl, and M is a cation; R10 is halo, amine, phenyl or substituted phenyl; R11 is hydrogen, SO¿2R?12, alkyl, phenyl, substituted phenyl, or Het; and Het is a heterocyclic ring.</p> |
