Method for taking reels of manufactured textile material from conveyor

The reels of textile material are fed by a conveyor belt from the manufacturing equipment to an unloading area for further treatment. In order to lift the reels from the moving belt an arrangement is provided beneath the belt which causes an arm to raise a section of the belt and a pair of arms to pivot underneath the reel and support it as the belt is released to its normal level. The conveyor (6) carrying reels of textile material (4) away from the manufacturing plant, is supported on a platform (13) which is interrupted (38) at the unloading station. The arrival of a reel is detected by a sensor (19) and a cam (30) is rotated to lift an arm (33) and hence a section of the conveyor belt. The cam then causes the side arms (15a,15b) to close together so that ends (27a,27b) are inserted beneath the reel and the arm (33) drops.
