REDUNDANT OPTICAL WAVEGUIDE NETWORK

摘要

The proposed redundant optical waveguide network has a central unit (Z) from which optical radial lines (U1-U3) radiate out to intermediate or terminal devices (D1-D3). For backup purposes, an additional ring line with bi-directional capability is provided and runs from the central unit (Z) via the intermediate or terminal devices (D1-D3) and back to the central unit. The intermediate and terminal devices can be connected to the ring line via bi-directional junction points. The ring line can be used continuously even for less important traffic provided that the radial lines are intact, and can be reserved for use as a backup path only when the need arises.
