Base materials normally used for manufacture of foam glass, e.g. glass powder, pieces of glass and minerals are melted and the molten material is foamed by foam-forming material which has its effect independent of whether it is added as soln., emulsion or mixture. Foaming agents primarily act as physical agents and do not operate by chemical reaction, e.g. water is partic. suitable as liquid or steam.
