The compressor (15) of the exhaust-driven turbocharger (12) is arranged in an air line (14) to the charging air cooler (16) which incorporates a changeover switch (18). Until the engine has warmed-up to its operating temp. almost all of the charging air is directed from the upstream side of the cooler straight to its downstream side. When warm-up is detected by a temp. sensor (19) in the exhaust pipe (13) or air line, the changeover switch is closed so that the entire air flow passes through the cooler. |
