1,034,378. Box-making machines. J. BOBST ET FILS S.A. Oct. 9, 1963 [Oct. 16, 1962], No. 39716/63. Heading B5D. In a cardboard blank folding machine, e.g. for making boxes, a blank travelling on conveyer 3 in the direction of arrow 2 has one or more trailing flaps 7 folded on to the body of the blank by a rough-surfaced endless belt 11. The belt 11 is driven by a pulley 10, connected by bar 13 to a driven pulley 12, and the system 10, 11, 12 is pivotable about axle 9, its initial disposition relative to conveyer 3 being determined by the positioning of a counterweight 19 on a bar 14. In operation, the lower run of belt 11 is moved in the same direction as, but at a somewhat greater velocity than conveyer 3, and flap 7 is picked up by the surface of belt 11 to be turned through positions 7<SP>1</SP>, 7<SP>11</SP>, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), with consequent upwards movement of system 10, 11, 12 about axle 9. Additionally, the flap 7 may be initially raised at the appropriate instant by independent means to facilitate operation of belt 11. In a second embodiment (not shown) belt 11 is arranged beneath conveyer 3, the blank being attached thereto. |
