HIGH PRESSURE DISCHARGE LAMP LIGHTING DEVICE AND LIGHTING SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable two arc tubes of two tube type high pressure electric discharge lamp to be lighted up with an even probability. SOLUTION: This lighting device is adapted to light up a high pressure electric discharge lamp 3 having two arc tubes connected in parallel and started up with the application of high pressure pulse thereto, in an outer tube 12. The lamp 3 is started up through the application of high pressure pulse of AC by a starter 4 connected to an AC power source 2, and after the lighting up a lamp current is limited with a single current limiting element 5. By parallely connecting an element 8 having a low impedance characteristic to high frequency wave to the source 2 at a part positioned upstream of the element 5, the voltage values of high pressure pulses of both positive and negative pole characteristics are made even. In this way the two arc tubes 10 emit light with the even probability.
