PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyolefin having a controlled molecular weight by polymerizing an olefin in the presence of a small amount of hydrogen and a specified mixed catalyst in a reactor. SOLUTION: In (co)polymerizing an olefin in a vapor phase in the presence of a catalyst prepared by bringing a compound containing a group IVB metal [e.g. a compound of formula I (wherein R<1> and R<2> are each a hydrocarbon group; X<1> is a halogen; Me<1> is Ti, Zr or Hf; 0<=p<=4; 0<=q<=4; and 0<=p+q<=4), a compound containing a group I, II or III metal [e.g. a compound of formula II (wherein Me<2> is a group III metal; R<3> and R<4> are each a hydrocarbon group; X<2> is H or a halogen; 0<=m<=3, 0<=n<=3; and 0<=m±n<=3)], an organic cyclic compound having two or more conjugated double bonds, a modified aluminum compound having an Al-O-Al bond or a boron compound and an inorganic compound support or a particulate polymer support into contact with each other, the hydrogen concentration in the reactor is adjusted at 0.1×10<-4> to 15×10<-4> mol per mol of the total olefins, whereupon a polyolefin of a controlled molecular weight can be obtained.
