PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the installation space of an apparatus when an unused cartridge is kept while preventing the scalling-up of the apparatus by providing a keeping means on a recording sheet supply side at the home position of the carriage in an apparatus main body. SOLUTION: When color recording is performed in such a state that a carriage 21 is loaded with a monochromatic recording cartridge, the monochromatic recording cartridge is detached from the carriage 21 to be replaced with a color recording cartridge but the detached cartridge is kept in the keeping part 30 provided in an apparatus main body 1. The keeping part 30 of the cartridge provided on the side same to the home position of the carriage 21 is formed into an upwardly opened box shape capable of housing an ink recording cartridge 25 at the position adjacent to a cassette 12 on the recording sheet supply side and the capping means of the recording head is provided therein. |
