PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve CSS durability and to float a magnetic head extremely low by forming the part to be formed as the CSS region of a substrate for a magnetic disk having the CSS region and data region as a toric recessed part formed on the substrate surface. SOLUTION: The circular recessed part 2 is dug on the substrate 1 as the part to be formed as the CSS region on the inner periphery of the disk. The recessed part 2 is subjected to a texturing treatment at the time of producing the magnetic disk. Namely, the recessed part 2 is subjected to the adequate texturing treatment, such as powder beam texturing, sputter texturing and tape texturing, thereby, the center line average height of the roughened part of the substrate surface is made nearly the same as the average height of the smooth part or lower than the same. The floating characteristics of the magnetic head at the time of CSS are thus improved. The center line average height is preferably specified to 100 to 300Å.
