A device for detecting and controlling a biofilm being formed on a surface exposed to a moist environment. The device includes at least two microsensors (Co, C1) of which one has a biofilm-neutral surface exposed to the moist environment while another has a biofilm formation-inhibiting surface exposed to the moist environment. The device further includes differential measurement means between the two microsensors. The inhibitory effect of the exposed surface may be provided by antibiotic agents that are active against microorganisms in the biofilm. The device may be used in a water supply system.
