PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the inserting distance and inserting rate of an optical fiber when an optical fiber is inserted into a resin tube preliminarily installed, by specifying the material of a protective tube of a fiber. SOLUTION: This protective tube for a optical fiber consists of 100 pts.wt. of high density polyethylene and 0.1 to 20 pts.wt. polyorganosiloxane having 0.5-70g/10min melt flow rate. The density of the high density polyethylene is preferably 0.940 to 0.970g/cm<3> because with low density, enough rigidity against pressure of the ground can not be obtd. when the fiber is installed in the ground. The melt flow rate(MFR) of the high density polyethylene is preferably 0.03 to 2g/10min because with a small rate, formation of the tube is made difficult, and because with a large rate, enough rigidity against pressure of the ground can not be obtd. when the fiber is installed in the ground. The polyorganosiloxane is used as a lubricant and its MFR is specified to 0.5-70g/10min, and preferably 20-50g/10min. |
