PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain an advertisement document display function while maintaining the same facility as a conventional system and with no excessive time required when an advertisement document is displayed via a display screen of a document reading client. SOLUTION: When it is detected that an advertisement document cache 24 should be updated based on the display priority shown in a display candidate list that is stored in a display candidate list storage part 291 of a document reading client 2, a document display management part 29 gives a request to an intermediate server 4 to transfer a desired advertisement document by means of the idle time of transfer of the hypermedia documents. At the same time, the advertisement documents transferred from the server 4 are stored in the cache 24. The part 29 selects a document to be displayed out of those advertisement documents stored in the cache 24 and displays it on a display device 20 in a period when the documents are sent to the client 2 from a hypermedia document management server 5.
