1,034,646. Coating and impregnating webs. J. DEMETER. Feb. 11, 1963 [Feb. 19, 1962], No. 5497/63. Heading D1L. Apparatus for coating and/or impregnating a web e.g. a textile web 2 with plastics material e.g. a resol resin comprises a first, heated-rotating roller 1 or 1<SP>1</SP> on to which the plastics material is fed to be melted, a second adjacent, heated roller 5 or 5<SP>1</SP> rotating in the same direction as the associated first roller but at such a speed that the layer of plastics material thereon is less than that on the first roller and means to direct the web 2 about the second roller so that the plastics layer is transferred thereto. As shown the web is pressed against each roller 5, 5<SP>1</SP> by belts 6, 6<SP>1</SP> and heated by devices 7. However the roller 5 rotates with peripheral velocity opposite to that of the web while roller 5 rotates with peripheral velocity of the same direction as the web; thus roller 5 applies a coating while roller 5<SP>1</SP> causes impregnation of the web. The speeds and temperatures of all the rollers is adjustable. In Fig. 2, (not shown), only one pair of first and second rollers is provided and a doctor 4 is thus provided on the first roller to determine the thickness of the coating. Various arrangements are shown in which either or both sides are impregnated and/or coated. In Fig. 9, (not shown), a filter device filters the melted plastics material as it passes about the first roller. |
