In an air gun the piston 13 is movable in the compressed air cylinder 12 by means of a cocking lever 22 and levers 24, 26, the piston being shifted from an upper dead centre position, Fig. 3, to a lower dead centre position, Fig. 4, by a single movement of the cocking lever 22 about its hinge 21 to suck in air and to be returned to its upper dead centre position by a reverse movement of the cocking lever, the arrangement of the lever pivots 21, 25, 27 serving to lock the piston in this position, whereby air in the cylinder 12 and a passage 15 leading to an air release valve 37 is compressed and retained under pressure until the shot is fired by opening the release valve by operation of the trigger 35. The pivots 21, 23, 25 of the levers may be in the form of eccentric pins so that a change in their positions can alter the position of the dead centre at the top of the stroke of the piston 13 and so adjust the pressure of the air above the piston 13. The movement of the cocking lever 22 also serves to open and close the barrel about its pivot 18 and a safety device 39 prevents operation of the trigger when the barrel is open or when the lever 22 is displaced from its position of rest. |
