The ventilation device has a sheath housing the electrical cables (3) supplying the headlamp. The interior of this sheath is in communication with a volume of air that is relatively dry and dust free. Normally the sheath opens into the interior of the cabin of the motor vehicle, where the air is in the required condition. An opening near the heater outlet is a preferred position. The air moves between the headlamp and the vehicle interior through the interstices between the cables inside the sheath. At the headlamp end the cable sheath terminates in a sleeve (13) fitted over the outside of the connectors at the rear of the headlamp.
