PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a winding type battery electrode plate capable of suppressing the short circuit and breakage of the electrode plate in a winding process. SOLUTION: In a battery electrode plate 2 prepared by spirally winding a positive plate and a negative plate through a separator, many grooves 1 are formed over the winding direction in the actually right angle direction to the winding direction on the surface of either one of or the surfaces of both of the electrode plates 2 having different polarity, so that the depth of the groove 1 becomes gradually shallow from the small radius of curvature side of the winding to the large radius of curvature side of the winding. Intervals of the grooves are specified so as to be gadually large from the small radius of curvature side of the winding to the large radius of curvature side of the winding.
